Spasticity and SCI, Part 2: Real Life Stories
The NIDILRR-funded Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury System Center (NWRSCIS) (H133N110017) has released Spasticity and SCI, Part 2: Real Life Stories, the latest in the SCI Forum video series. In the panel discussion, four individuals with SCI share their unique experiences with spasticity, what treatments they have tried over the years, and how they manage their spasticity now. Spasticity and SCI, Part 1 covered the positive, negative, and neutral effects of spasticity and explored a variety of conventional and nonconventional treatment options.
NU-RERC Releases 22 Years of Capabilities
The recently-completed NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NU-RERC) (H133E080009) has released its 22-year archive of Capabilities, the quarterly publication highlighting research and education activities at the NU-RERC and the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center. Capabilities is now part of the Virtual Library Project at the Digital Resource Foundation for the Orthotics and Prosthetics Community.
AbleData Featured in 10 Ways to Wrap Up 2015
The NIDILRR-funded AbleData project (ED-OSE-13-C-0064) was featured in 10 Ways to Wrap Up 2015 in the December issue of Disability Connection, the monthly newsletter from Disability.gov. AbleData was recommended as a resource to find assistive technology solutions for home, school, and work to make life easier in the new year.
ADA Live! Post-Secondary Education and Students with Disabilities TODAY
The NIDILRR-funded Southeast ADA Center (H133A110021) will host a webcast, Post-Secondary Education and Students with Disabilities, part of the ADA Live! series, TODAY, 1-1:30pm. This episode covers information and resources for students with disabilities and their families as they plan for higher education and the kinds of supports and services that are available when they enter college or university. No registration is required and questions may be submitted in advance.
Collaborative Survey on Intimacy and Sexuality
The NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Living and Participation of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities (TU Collaborative) (90RT5021/H133B130014), in partnership with Julie Tennille, PhD, of West Chester University, seeks participants for a new survey to learn more about mental health provider knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to having conversations about sexuality and intimacy with their clients diagnosed with mental health conditions. Participants must be 18 years or older and working full-time or part-time as mental health professionals. The research is intended to lead to the development of a modular training toolkit for providers.
Inclusion by Design Impact Awards
The Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities Task Force on Physical Activity and Sport is accepting applications for the Inclusion by Design Impact Awards in Sport and Physical Activity. The awards recognize individuals/ organizations that have developed and implemented policies, practices, or programs that contribute to building an inclusive culture in sport and physical activity. The competition is open to all individuals and organizations including government and nongovernmental organizations, private businesses, sports teams, fitness centers, and other civic organizations. Applications are due by January 31st. Eligibility criteria and application are available online.
