Scope
The survey covers issues in technology, full choice in life and treatment decisions, and use of services. No names or IP data is collected. There are several sensitive issues: use of mental health services and/or medication, and issues of self-determination
Development Background
In the development of the Self-Determination Technology Long Survey, researchers conducted literature and database reviews in Psychlit, ERIC, and REHABDATA, among others. These reviews looked at the other technology surveys, like the Pew survey and the census, and the use of technology among people with disabilities. Literature searches were also conducted on the broad topic of self-determination. Consultations were made with other researchers, particularly in how to mount a web-based survey.
Development Methodology
Two different consumer groups were developed, one on technology and one on self-determination, to pilot the surveys. Questions were submitted by consumer groups, then narrowed down to the core issues.
Outside Consultation
Consultations were made with other researchers, particularly in how to mount a web-based survey
Consumer Input
Questions were submitted by consumer groups
Used Elsewhere
Self determination questions can be generalized to other communities.

Limitations
In this study, a narrow population (overwhelmingly white) participated in the survey, this group is not as restricted in determination
The participants belong to more of a recovered group
A large number of advocates participated, presenting a somewhat biased view.
Findings
Data analysis was in the preliminary stage at the time of the interview. The project utilized multivariate statistics for analyses
Interpretations
Data analysis was in the preliminary stage at the time of the interview. The project utilized multivariate statistics for analyses
Implications

Research Methods
The survey is presented as a web-based form. It is filled out by study participants, in this case people with mental health issues that may or may not be receiving services
Findings Impact
It is hoped the data gathered will lead to greater awareness and the development of more services for people with psychiatric disabilities
