These projects represent a spectrum of research, development, demonstration, training, engineering, and technical assistance addressing all types of disability and rehabilitation topics. Records in the NIDILRR Program Database contain more than 15 fields described below.
Project Information
Title: The name of the funded grant project (not the name of the organization that received funding). You can search this field by keyword.
Abstract: A 200-300-word summary of project activities, described in the present tense and written in plain language by NARIC. You can search this field by keyword.
Descriptor(s): Terms applied by NARIC staff to standardize retrieval across all NARIC databases. Descriptors are drawn from more than 700 industry-specific terms described in the REHABDATA Thesaurus but may include additional terms not in the Thesaurus. You can search this field by keyword. You can also filter your results by the top terms.
Project Number: The government designation that NARIC uses to link project information across databases. You can type the project number into NARIC's REHABDATA database and retrieve information about their publications. Please note: Grants funded prior to 2015 may display grant numbers from both the Department of Education and the Administration for Community Living. See About NIDILRR Project Numbers below. You can search this field by keyword.
In addition, a project record may display any publications indexed in REHABDATA and available through NARIC's document delivery service.
Project Contact Information
Institution: The name of the organization receiving funding. You can search this field by keyword.
Principal Investigator/Contact: The person within the Institution who is the research leader for the project. You can search the Principal Investigator field by keyword. You can also filter your results by the most frequent names.
Public Contact: The person who may be contacted for information about the project (if other than the Principal Investigator).
Phone Number: Publicly available phone numbers for project contact person.
Street Address: Physical address for the grant’s contact. The state and postal names may be spelled out or in abbreviations. You can search states by keyword.
Email: Publicly available email address for project contact person.
URL: Website for project information or social media.
NIDILRR Funding Information
Funding Status: This field indicates whether a project is currently funded ("yes"), completed ("no"), or newly funded for the current year ("new"). This information is not displayed in an individual record, but is available as a filter in the search and report pages. If a project has ended, a message will display that the project has completed its research activities. You can limit your search by funding status or filter your results.
Start Date: Date when funded activities begin. You can limit your results to a minimum start year. For example: All projects that started after June 2024.
Length: Expected project period, in months.
NIDILRR Program Officer: Federal staff who administers and monitors the grant award. You can search this field by keyword.
NIDILRR Funding: Funding the project receives each grant year. You can limit your results by a range of single year funding.
Other Funding: The amount of funding from sources other than NIDILRR, if any.
Outcome Domain: Broad categories of funding focus as outlined in the Long Range Plan: Community Living and Participation, Disability Statistics and Demographics, Employment, Health and Function, and Technology for Access and Function, as well as Capacity Building for Disability Research and Training, Knowledge Translation, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Project Type: The NIDILRR program or funding mechanism under which a project is funded as listed on the Explore NIDILRR-funded Research and Development by Programs and Outcomes page. You can limit your search by project type/ or filter your results after your search.

About NIDILRR Project Numbers
Per the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), now the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), has been transferred to the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
NIDILRR-funded grants that were active after October 2014 may have received new grant numbers. Any grants awarded after October 2014 received new ACL grant numbers beginning with 90. Only one grant number will appear in these records and any records added after this point.
Any grants awarded prior to October 2014 may have a grant number beginning with H133, ED, RN, HN, or G000. To maintain the historical record of the NIDILRR Program Database, two grant numbers may appear in a NIDILRR Program Directory record. If the grant received a new ACL number, the previous Dept of Education number will appear in parentheses.
