NARIC maintains the largest collection focused solely on disability and rehabilitation, with more than 300,000 articles, books, reports, and multimedia products indexed and abstracted in our REHABDATA database. NARIC's librarians add about 70 items to the database each month, including publications from the NIDILRR grantee community and from the international research community. More than 7,000 publications are available free in full text, and document delivery is available for print materials in the collection.
NARIC is one of the most comprehensive libraries in the country for disability and rehabilitation information. All documents in the library are cataloged in the REHABDATA literature database. REHABDATA is the leading literature database on disability and rehabilitation. The database describes documents covering the spectrum of disability, independent living, vocational rehabilitation, special education, assistive technology, law, employment, and other issues as they relate to people with disabilities. The collection spans 1956 to the present. Three main categories of documents are featured: (1) reports, studies, and papers submitted by projects funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (as featured in the NIDILRR Program Directory); (2) articles published in rehabilitation-related periodicals; and (3) more than 115,000 abstracts for documents collected by the Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange (CIRRIE), many of which were published in languages other than English. Some non-print material is also catalogued. NARIC adds approximately 700 items to REHABDATA each year, including multimedia items.
