NARIC news:

Tomorrow is Veterans Day in the US, celebrating and honoring those who have served in our military for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Veterans can be valued members of the workforce, but can face challenges to finding employment when they transition out of the military. According to the ADA National Network, nearly one-third of working-age veterans has a disability which may or may not be connected to their service. Of those with a disability, the employment rate is much lower than veterans without disabilities. However, veterans with disabilities have a lot to offer potential employers, and there are resources, supports, and incentives available to employers and hiring managers (PDF) to hire and retain veterans with disabilities, who can be valued long-term employees. To our veterans: Thank you for your service!

This Just In:
Access to care and health insurance coverage for workers with disabilities: Outcomes by state-level responses to the ACA. Disability and Health Journal, Volume 14(3), Pgs. 101099. NARIC Accession Number: J86968.
New to the NARIC collection, this NIDILRR-funded study examined differences in health insurance coverage and access to care among workers with disabilities according to states’ decisions about expanding Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). While uninsured rates decreased after 2014 in all states regardless of the state’s decision whether to expand Medicaid, there was a substantial increase after 2014 in the share of workers with disabilities covered by Medicaid in states that expanded in that year. At the same time, the share of workers with disabilities reporting cost-related barriers to care declined significantly in 2014 Medicaid expansion states, but it increased slightly in the non-expansion states. Overall, findings showed that Medicaid coverage and cost-related access to care improved significantly among workers with disabilities in 2014 Medicaid expansion states, both overall and relative to workers with disabilities in non-expansion states.
