The effect of the interactive mobile health and rehabilitation system on health and psychosocial outcomes in spinal cord injury: Randomized controlled trial. Journal of Medical Internet Research, Volume 21(8), Pgs. e14305. NARIC Accession Number J85903.
Recently added to the NARIC collection, this study investigated whether the use of the Interactive Mobile Health and Rehabilitation (iMHere) mobile health (mHealth) system would be associated with improved health and psychosocial outcomes in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Thirty-eight participants with SCI were randomized into either the intervention group, which used the iMHere system and received standard care, or the control group, which received standard care without any technology intervention. Health outcomes were defined as the number of urinary tract infections (UTIs), number of pressure injuries, and number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations. Psychosocial metrics described functional independence, quality of life, and mood. The intervention group had a statistically significant reduction in UTIs and a trend toward reduction in mood symptoms when compared to the control group.
