Slide 2: The NIDRR Research Program

The mission of NIDRR is to generate new knowledge and promote its effective use to improve the abilities of people with disabilities to perform activities of their choice in the community, and also to expand society's capacity to provide full opportunities and accommodations for its citizens with disabilities.

Research Priorities: employment outcomes; health and function; technology for access and function; participation and community living; capacity building, and other associated disability research areas. Current research includes physical and medical rehabilitation, mental health, education, employment, technology, knowledge translation, and the built environment.
In 2008 NIDRR funded 34 model systems, 10 regional ADA technical assistance centers, 34 research and training centers, 25 engineering research centers, plus fellowships, field initiated research, and small business innovative research.
