Increasing access to healthcare for people with disabilities.

Abstract: Presenters discuss the processes of a community engagement and evaluation project that examines a grassroots method used to identify and remove barriers to people with disabilities in accessing healthcare at the community level. The first process starts by identifying a local disability community partner, like an independent living center. Next, a town hall meeting is held where individuals from the community who have disabilities discuss their experiences in accessing healthcare and medical services to identify barriers they experience.

Independently operated footrests: Design concepts.

Abstract: Video presents 4 prototype designs for independently operated power wheelchair footrests developed at Georgia Tech's Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA) The four-bar linkage, track slide, motorized, and spring-loaded designs allow wheelchair users to independently lift and lower a center-mounted footrest. For each prototype, the primary designer describes how the design works, demonstrates how to operate the mechanism, and discusses its advantages and limitations. Running time: 5:16.
