Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day here in the US! It's also the last week of American Diabetes Month, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association. Nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes, and big meal-centered days like Thanksgiving can be a challenge! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has some tips for managing your diabetes during the holidays, such as choosing healthy sides and drinks, opting for fruit for dessert, and taking a post-dinner walk. You may also be interested in research and resources on diabetes from the NIDILRR community and elsewhere, available from our collection. We wish you all a happy, healthy Thanksgiving, and thank you for your continuing support!

Research Brief: What Is Discovery?
The NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Employment of Individuals with Physical Disabilities (VCU-RRTC) (H133B130011) has published a new research brief: What Is Discovery? The brief uses a question-and-answer format to present preliminary findings from a project that defines the components of customized employment (CE). Specifically, the brief describes discovery, a key component of customized employment, and core discovery practices identified in focus groups with nationally recognized experts in the field.

Stages of Development (SoD): Review of Public Comments and Possible Actions
NIDILRR will host a webinar, Stages of Development: Review of Public Comments and Possible Actions, December 2nd, 2-3pm ET. NIDILRR staff will present a summary of public comments submitted to NIDILRR providing feedback on the Stages of Development framework, and possible actions based on these comments. Registration is free but required, and space is limited.

MRSCICS Scientist to Deliver Keynote at TWU Research Day
T. George Hornby, PhD, research scientist with the NIDILRR-funded Midwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Care System Center (MRSCICS) (H133N110014) will deliver the keynote address at Research Day at Texas Woman's University (TWU) on December 3rd. Dr. Hornby will present Walking the Walk: Translation of Research Evidence to Clinical Practice to Improve Walking Function After Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury.

At Your Service Featured in Business Sense
At Your Service, a video developed by the NIDILRR-funded Mid-Atlantic ADA Center (H133A110017), was featured in the 'Tis the season to be... Courteous in the Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy's (ODEP) Business Sense newsletter. The 20-minute video provides tips and recommendations to small-business owners and their employees to engage, connect, and interact with customers with disabilities in a variety of service settings -- during the holidays, or any time of year. Free of charge, it offers a simple way to incorporate disability etiquette into employee orientation or training programs.

Webinar: Effective Practices for Employment Preparation and Support for Youth with Disabilities
The NIDILRR-funded Mid-Atlantic ADA Center (H133A110017) will host a webinar, Effective Practices for Employment Preparation and Support for Youth with Disabilities, December 3rd, 2-3pm ET. Laura Owens and Ann Deschamps of TransCen will discuss research-based practices to support and prepare youth with disabilities as they transition from school to employment. Registration is free and required and continuing education credits are available.

Pathways Transition Training Partnership
The NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Pathways to Positive Futures (Pathways RTC) (H133B140032) seeks organizations to participate in the Pathways Transition Training Partnership (PDF). Organizations with eight or more service providers can participate in Promoting Positive Pathways to Adulthood, ten one-hour online training modules sharing research-based knowledge for strength-based services, increasing family and community support, youth recovery, and youth voice. Staff members will complete the training, engage in team-based exercises and content discussions, and complete a simple training evaluation. Continuing education credits or certificates of completion are available to participants. Small Business & Disability Employment: Steps to Success
The Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) has created Small Business & Disability Employment: Steps to Success, an online toolkit with practical guidance for small businesses on how to recruit and retain qualified people with disabilities. The kit also describes approaches business associations, such as local chambers of commerce and business leadership networks, can use to educate their members on disability employment issues and raise awareness in their communities. A December 8th webinar will feature the toolkit and discuss how businesses can create more inclusive workplaces.
