It's National Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month! Did you know the most common cause of SCI in the US is vehicle crashes? Or that the amount of time people with SCI spend in rehabilitation has dropped significantly since the 1970s? These facts and more are available from the NIDILRR-funded National SCI Statistical Center where you can search quick tools on causes of SCI and life expectancy or download their SCI Facts and Figures at a Glance (PDF). Employment Interventions for Return to Work in Working Aged Adults Following TBI
The NIDILRR-funded Center on Knowledge Translation for Employment Research (KTER) (H133A100026) has published Employment Interventions for Return to Work in Working Aged Adults Following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) (PDF). This technical brief presents highlights from a systematic review of the effectiveness of rehabilitation employment interventions on return-to-work outcomes for adults with TBI.

NIDILRR Director and Grantees to Present at ICDR Accessible HIT Conference
NIDILRR Director John Tschida will present opening remarks at Accessibility and Usability in Health Information Technology (HIT): A Research & Action Conference to Empower People with Disabilities, Older Adults, and Caregivers, hosted by the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR), September 17th and 18th, in Washington, DC. Several NIDILRR grantees and staff members will participate in panel discussions. The purpose of the conference is to advance the priority of accessibility in HIT systems and tools from a compliance-oriented approach to one that is user-driven, responsive to human-centered consumer experiences, and results in increased patient engagement and improved health and wellness for individuals with disabilities, older adults, and caregivers. Registration is free but required and space is limited.

RRTCDD Researcher Discusses Transition and ID with Fox News
Matthew Janicki, PhD, from the NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Developmental Disabilities and Health (RRTCDD) (H133B130007), was quoted in Parents of special needs children face waitlist, scarce information for long-term care from Fox News. Dr. Janicki spoke on the need for assistance to parents of children with intellectual disabilities (ID) as they move into adulthood and described several programs that support families through this transitional period.

RRTC PI Receives Pediatric TBI Research Award
Shari Wade, PhD, principal investigator of the NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Interventions for Children and Youth with Traumatic Brain Injury (H133B090010), will receive the first Jane Gillett Award from the International Brain Injury Association to be presented at the First International Conference of Paediatric Brain Injury in Liverpool (UK). The Jane Gillett Award recognizes outstanding contribution and continuing work to improve the lives of children and youth living with the effects of brain injury.

Webinar: Learn More About the QIAT-PS
The NIDILRR-funded Great Lakes (H133A110029) and Southwest ADA Centers (H133A110027) will host a webinar, Learn More About the QIAT-PS, September 21st, 4pm ET. This webinar will offer a comprehensive summary and demonstration of the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology in Postsecondary Education (QIAT-PS) Campus Self-Evaluation Matrix, and will describe how disability services programs have used it to set goals for improving AT services and the assistive technology experiences of students with disabilities enrolled in postsecondary educational environments. No registration is required for this free webinar.

Wireless RERC Survey of User Needs in Spanish
The NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for Wireless Technologies (Wireless RERC) (H133E110002) has launched Encuesta sobre las necesidades del usuario respecto a las tecnologías inalámbricas, the Spanish-language version of its 2015 Survey of User Needs (SUN) for Wireless Technologies. The purpose of the SUN is to learn how people of all ages and abilities use wireless technology. The survey is open to all users and focuses primarily on cellphones, but includes questions about other devices such as iPads, Android and Fire tablets, and Microsoft Surface.
